Arrival of Gangaji ( Godavari Rivar ) into the Matted Hairs of Lord Shiva
Devindra Bali had commenced his hundredth sacrificial work (in which a horse is used). Then, Indra dev, Indra and the other Gods had doubted and had been afraid of the King Bali's conquer on the Indra's throne by the power of his (Bali's) ascetic practices.
Afraid of this idea in their mind, all the Gods with Indra ran towards the God Vishnu and started adoring and praising him. On this the God Vishnu entered into the sacrificial place in the form of a shortman. There, the God Vishnu, in the form of the monkey Defeated the Guru Shukracharya ji and his other felows. Very much affected with the knowledge of the Shastras and radiance the King Bali adored and worshipped the Monkey God and got him be seated on the throne and offered him to ask for any three disires. The Monkey God desired to demand the three steps land (three feet of land). Bali accepted his desires and decided to grant him the three steps (feet) of land. The God Vishnu in the form of a monkey expanded his himself into an extremely huge human body and meaured the entire Earth in a single step itself and the entire universe in the second step. Now, he asked Bali where to put the third step?
Answering to the question the King Bali bowed down befor the Monkey God and offered his own head to place the third step. On this response, the Monkey God pleased and offered Bali to ask for a boon. After worshipping and adoring the form of the God vishnu, Bali requested Vishnu to stay at his home along with the Goddess Laxmi so that he could enjoy the fate to adore and worship every day.
When the God Vishnu, in the form of the monkey placed his second foot onto the Satyalok (the world of Truth) he (the King Bali) Worshipped Vishnu's feet with the holy water recieved from shankarji. Lets the water in the process of washing feet should not enter into the Patal (inner sight of the Earth) through the Earth, Lord Shiva scattered his matted hairs in order to prevent this water from going into the Patal. Thus, this sacred water is in the form of Ganga Godavari.
Right in the middle of the Brihmagiri mountain is Gangadwar. In the time from 1907A.D to 1918 A.D. the resident of Kuchh, Seth Karamasi Hansraj built 750 stairs here and made the road for the visitors's case and comfort. 108 Shivalings installed by the sage Gautam are here. Here are situated the caves of Shri Gorakhnath in which the sage Gautam had recieved the ascetic accomplishment.
